Stepwise increased spatial provenance contrast on the Chinese Loess Plateau over late Miocene-Pleistocene

چکیده
Abstract The Miocene–Holocene dust sequences composing the Chinese Loess Plateau are one of Earth’s most complete terrestrial eolian sediment archives. Here we present a zircon Uranium-Lead geochronology dataset for sequence from northeastern plateau and compare results with those central plateau. These data show trend increasing spatial provenance contrast late Miocene to Pleistocene. This can be reasonably explained by uplift Qilian Shan, Pliocene intensification increased variations Asian summer monsoons, Pleistocene Northern Hemisphere glaciations, possible formation current Yellow River course. events changed supply, availability, wind strength, causing observed pattern. interpretations challenge assertions linking accumulation on primarily aridification within interior, but rather point confluence surface processes involving exhumation, monsoon, ice ages, river reorganization.

Late Miocene–Pliocene Paleoclimatic Evolution Documented by Terrestrial Mollusk Populations in the Western Chinese Loess Plateau
The Neogene eolian deposits in the Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) are one of the most useful continental deposits for understanding climatic changes. To decipher Late Neogene paleoclimatic changes in the CLP, we present a terrestrial mollusk record spanning the time interval between 7.1 and 3.5 Ma from the western CLP. The results indicate four stages of paleoclimatic evolution: From 7.1 to 6.2 Ma...

متن کاملUnmixing hysteresis loops of the late Miocene–early Pleistocene loess-red clay sequence
Magnetic paleoclimatic records often represent mixed environmental signals. Unmixing these signals may improve our understanding of the paleoenvironmental information contained within these records, but such a task is challenging. Here we report an example of numerical unmixing of magnetic hysteresis data obtained from Chinese loess and red clay sequences. We find that the mixed magnetic assemb...
متن کاملLate Pleistocene climate history of the Baranja loess plateau – evidence from the Zmajevac loess - paleosol section ( northeastern Croatia )
The Zmajevac loess-palaeosol succession (LPS) of the northeastern Baranja loess plateau is exposed along the southern slope of Bansko Brdo, on the western bank of the Danube River. The investigated 17.5-m-thick section shows 4 palaeosol, 1 loess-like and 6 loess horizons. Their integrative palaeoenvironmental analysis combines quantified data from the mollusc record, magnetic susceptibility, gr...
متن کاملClimate-Human interaction over the Iranian Plateau during the Upper Pleistocene-Holocene: A review
During the past two decades an array of studies have shed light on potential links between the evolution of Hominids as well as Human dispersal out of Africa and episodes of abrupt climate change. Although archaeological evidences suggest that anatomically modified humans appeared in Africa between 200 and 150 ky ago, the timing of the early humans migration out of Africa remained unclear. Stra...
